Relay

Relay transports amenities and guest orders between staff and hotel rooms. The 41 L cargo figure on this page refers to Relay2, not every generation of Relay hardware.

What it does for your operation

A guest receiving bottled drinks next to the open top compartment of a Relay robot at a doorway.
In your operation

Send the item while staff continue serving guests

Relay takes hotel items from a loading point to the guest destination. It addresses repeated delivery trips; staff still load the robot and manage requests and exceptions.

Task performance

Carry amenities, meals and guest orders

The enclosed compartment holds 41 L. Meal boxes, towels and amenity kits need to fit the compartment opening as well as its storage volume.

Safety & sensing

Limit third-party movement through guest floors

A front-desk handoff to Relay can keep external couriers out of accommodation corridors. The hotel still controls receipt checks, guest identity and delivery exceptions.

Site fit

Include elevators in the delivery route

Multi-floor service connects reception, compatible elevators and room collection points. The building survey defines access equipment, corridor clearances and the guest hand-off.

Elevator and door integration must match the property.
Delivery route
Corridor width, turns, thresholds and guest hand-off points are surveyed before deployment.
Service area
Provide an accessible dispatch point, charging location and staff loading process.

Relay2 is the 41 L reference configuration. A charging dock supports recharging between deliveries. The compartment is not an actively heated or refrigerated food cabinet; staff load orders and handle missed collections.

Before you decide.

Which Relay does the 41 L figure describe?

Relay Robotics introduced Relay2 with a 41 L cargo compartment in 2023. This page uses that configuration as its capacity reference; earlier Relay robots are not assigned the same volume.

Does it keep food hot or cold?

The compartment is not actively heated or refrigerated. Packaging and the delivery journey, rather than an onboard temperature-control system, determine food conditions.

How is a guest notified?

Relay’s documented hotel workflow calls the room when the robot arrives. The guest collects the item from the closed compartment; an uncollected delivery remains an exception for hotel staff, not a guaranteed unattended hand-off.

How is it charged?

Relay Robotics states that a dock comes with Relay and that the robot recharges between deliveries, returning when its battery is low. A continuous-runtime promise is not needed for that operating model.
